MFEC members and friends,

It has been my great pleasure to launch into learning from the research, programs and collaboration you have been engaging in over these three years of the Collaborative’s development. I look forward to meeting each of you in person and to working together to grow our Collaboration in ways that help us reach every resident of the Commonwealth. Together we possess the tools to equip residents from every Massachusetts demographic to pursue secure financial lives. Together we can support these residents, of all ages and incomes, in accomplishing their livelihood goals.

It was fantastic to spend even a few short hours with some of you at the Summit on Financial Education. We had a great turnout, with over 130 participants! Thank you for letting us know of your interest in the “life-span groups,” working groups, which will continue to be core to the work of MFEC.

As you can see, the Summit attracted strong interest in the K-16 and adult groups. While we will keep working to expand our member participation in the older adult life span groups, we will also be working hard to respond to the clear and urgent need for multiplying innovation and developing stronger partnerships in our collective work with our youngest citizens.

At the Summit, nearly 140 trainers, service providers, and content distributors in financial education were divided into 3 life span groups for two hours of deep discussion and brainstorming. Click here for a short preview of the feedback you gave at the Summit. We will send the full summary in January, in advance of the next MFEC Interim Steering Committee meeting where your ideas will be discussed.

In 2012 we will work hard to respond to the ideas and energy that you bring as MFEC members. Even as we quickly get a handle on the operational logistics of setting up a central statewide office, we are also beginning to iron out strategies for collaborative fundraising, standard setting and membership growth. In addition, we will be meeting with many of you to discuss ways to use our collective knowledge and connections to better integrate financial education and empowerment into the sectors where residents most need it. We are also working on ways to make the MassSaves.org website and social media inviting to you, your constituent groups and consumers.

We want the central office to galvanize the energy that you bring in ways that add value to your work and shared outcomes! Toward this end, please complete the form at the link below to enable us to update our contacts and refine our communication to you.

In the new year, I will be reaching out to each of you directly. Please be ready to share your hopes and dreams for how the Collaborative can support what you do and add value to our collective mission. However, don’t hesitate to contact me before then!

Happy holidays, and I look forward to a fruitful 2012 together!
